School Nurse Resources

At Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, we value the strong relationships we’ve built with school nurses in the communities we serve. Working together, we help protect the health and well-being of students, teachers, and staff. Our public health nurses support school nurses by sharing important health updates, helping track illnesses, providing guidance during outbreaks, and ensuring students meet vaccine requirements. This partnership allows us to respond quickly to health concerns and promote a safe, healthy learning environment for all.

Please see below for some helpful links for our School Nurse community:

Prevention and control of communicable diseases are shared responsibility between schools, health care providers, parents, students, local and state health departments, and other community partners. The school environment is conducive to acquiring and transmitting communicable diseases, but good preventive practices can also lessen their impact.

Outbreaks: Outbreaks and suspected outbreaks of any illness/condition are immediately reportable to the local health department where the school is located, per NJAC 8:57. This pertains to youth camps, child care centers, preschools, schools and institutions of higher education referred to in general as “schools.”
