Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission is proud to share our July 2025 Community Resource Spotlight on an organization that offers vital services to residents in Bergen County:
Bergen County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)
Bergen County CASA is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers to serve as advocates for children removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Each CASA volunteer is appointed by a judge to speak up for a foster child’s best interests in court and ensure they receive the services and support they need to thrive.
Serving over 120 foster youth each year, Bergen CASA helps ensure that every child in the child welfare system has a consistent adult by their side—someone focused on their unique needs in education, healthcare, housing, and permanency.
Bergen CASA’s key services include:
- Advocacy in Court: Volunteers attend hearings and provide recommendations to ensure children’s voices are heard.
- Educational Support: Advocates work to identify and address learning needs, including special education services.
- Health & Mental Health Advocacy: Volunteers help ensure access to appropriate medical and therapeutic care.
- Life Skills & Transition Planning: Support for older youth as they prepare for adulthood and independent living.
