Dear Residents,
Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission is proud to share our monthly spotlight on two community organizations that offer vital services to residents in Bergen County:
New Jersey Comfort Partners Program
The New Jersey Comfort Partners Program has provided energy savings to over 126,000 families. This free program assists income-eligible individuals and families to reduce their utility bills. This program aims to implement cost-effective measures to save energy and money while improving health and safety measures for those in need.
Your income must be at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines to be eligible for consideration. Participants are provided with personalized, comprehensive energy education services and counseling. Home efficiency measures can include hot water conservation, lighting products, duct sealing and repair, and any insulation upgrades.

The Lois E. Marshall Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) offers a non-credit program guided by peer-to-peer learning principles at Bergen Community College. This program caters to individuals aged 55 and older. The purpose is to serve the intellectual and social needs of a vibrant community of lifelong learners. There is a cost associated with this program; however, no educational prerequisites, tests, or grades are provided throughout the program’s duration.
Courses are aimed at giving informational insight and education by fellow members and experts in the larger community. IRL Members can attend up to five (5) courses for $125.00 per semester. There is a wide range of topics, such as literature, studio art, yoga, meditation, etc. Course offerings include Financial Fitness in Retirement, Plan for Aging in Place in the Home, U.S. Space Program History, and much more! ILR members can enjoy the option of courses being held both in-person and online.
Each semester, the ILR looks to grow its course offerings. Should you want to teach a course, please reach out via email to ilr@bergen.edu. For more information about the Institute for Learning in Retirement, please visit: Institute For Learning In Retirement | Bergen Community College
