Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission is proud to share our June 2024 Community Resource Spotlight on two organizations that offer vital services to residents in Bergen County:
Bergen County Cancer Education and Early Detection (CEED) Program
Men’s Health Awareness Month is observed annually in June. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), approximately 13.2% of men aged 18 and over are in fair or poor health. Men’s Health Month underscores the importance of encouraging men and young boys to consider all stages and aspects of their health. This includes controlling lifestyle changes and decisions that may impact their physical health, mental health, and social development and connection. National Men’s Health Week will take place on June 10-16, 2024. During this time, it is necessary to heighten awareness surrounding preventable health complications and improve overall wellness.
The Bergen County Cancer Education and Early Detection (CEED) program provides comprehensive outreach, education, and screening services for colorectal and prostate cancers, which are prevalent among men. These health screenings assess the likelihood that an individual has a particular disease and provide early prevention strategies and treatment options to prevent illness or death from that disease. The CEED program targets those uninsured or whose health insurance may not cover fees and costs associated with screening services.

The Center for Drug and Alcohol Resources
The Center for Drug and Alcohol Resources (CDAR) program is an extension of Children’s Aid and Family Services. The CDAR program educates Passaic and Bergen County communities about the impacts of alcohol and drug misuse. Through their dedicated advocacy efforts, communities are provided with rapid and responsive prevention, recovery, and treatment services.
The Children’s Aid and Family Services offers a variety of programs geared towards parents, youths, and families. The purpose is to inform, educate, and empower residents with the appropriate tools and resources they need to combat alcohol and drug misuse.
The CDAR program urges the importance of increasing public awareness, identifying upstream solutions, and creating a safety net for supporting healthy decision-making regarding the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other forms of substance. A guiding mantra to strengthen individuals and families: Together, we can achieve what we dare to dream is possible!
